"(…pulls up a chair) I'd like to share a revelation that I've had, during my time here." Bursts of human genius are frequently proximal to a crushing insanity that seems ever lurking in our minds, but these extremes of intellect's issue are not flip sides off the same coin. Great perspicacity and enlightened invention are not prerequisites to mental disease.
Forward looking and thinking visionaries must wade tediously through the tendentious clawing masses which allow themselves to be lead by sycophantic gangs of group-thinking elites more concerned with their own status, power and wealth than their incumbent stewardship. The recent upsurge in American drinking habits, coincident with the start of the financial crisis of `08, reflects the inescapable, gnawing malaise. We shouldn't be surprised if the trend continues as our monetary chickens come home to roost, and since our self-absorbed elites view the rest of us as nails; why in the hell shouldn't we get hammered?
It's related to the vicarious thrill of mixed martial arts and the inherent, well designed effects of virtual first-person-shooters. It is a call of duty but the tariff imposed on our better angels and the execution of their offices ultimately bankrupts higher reason. Just because we have a reptile brain doesn't mean we should focus our energy on self limiting saurian pursuits, and just because we can do something isn't in itself proof that we should do it.

ℜight. You're upset ...
But what animates our behaviour? Is it peer pressure and the desire for acceptance? Is it an unknown psychic rumbling instilled in our childhood, adolescence, or formative adult years? All of the above?
Human action frequently calls forth not equal and opposite reactions but excessive reactionary zeal. We are both conservative in our desire for the status quo to which we've become accustomed and liberal in our pursuit of personal expression and happiness, but how we exhibit these constructions and define our bliss determine the outcome of our behavior -- our karma.
Hence the sage puts away excessive effort, extravagance, and easy indulgence.

A cursory analysis of the thought behind the words spewing forth from the dog-whistle, gaping maws of our political class, which necessarily includes all the functionaries of a metastasized prison-industrial-military-media-pharmaceutical-leisure-investment-entertainment complex, plainly illustrates their shaky grasp of the reality the rest of us are forced to endure. They live in a world of their own illusions for which the "99%" have been footing the bill ... for centuries.
Charles Pierce's coverage of the Republican primary season for Esquire is as spot on as any political reporting can be; and though he might disagree, Americans have the government they deserve.
